April 11, 2008 - UNC-Medical School. Kayley Taber spoke to medical students on domestic violence and the law as part of their first year curriculum. She emphasized the importance of clear documentation of injuries and providing support through appropriate referrals for the patients.


April 11, 2008 - UNC-School of Nursing. Kayley Taber taught nurses from across the state on legal issues and expert testimony in sexual assault cases. The training was part of a week long certification process for nurses to become specialists in examination of sexual assault victims (SANE).


April 9, 2008 - Kayley Taber, Managing Assistant District Attorney was the keynote speaker at a memorial for children who have died as a result of child abuse. She encouraged those attending to reach out to those in need to help each family provide a safe, healthy and nurturing environment for their children.


April 4, 2008 - Kayley Taber, Managing Assistant DA, Chatham County; and Sabrina Garcia, Town of Chapel Hill Police Department co-facilitated a working group to develop action for North Carolina to combat sexual trafficking. Every year, approximately 800,000 individuals are trafficked worldwide across international borders and victimized through forced labor and commercial sexual exploitation. Nearly 20,000 of these victims enter the United States; an estimated 23 percent arrive in the southeast. The attendees worked to come up with concrete methods to increase awareness of sexual trafficking within law enforcement and legal communities. March 28, 2008 - In Orange County Superior Court, Jamie Lee Wilson was sentenced to the maximum of forty years for second-degree murder and felony child abuse charges in connection with the death of a 2 year old girl. At the sentencing, Ms. Taber stated that her office was "submitting that the motive was anger over a toilet-training issue. At 140 degrees, really serious and permanent damage would have been done to that child very quickly." For more information, see the article in the News & Observer.


March 20, 2008 - The Democratic Women of Johnston County hosted a judicial candidates forum at the Smithfield Courthouse. Candidate Kayley Taber spoke about the domestic violence program she created and implemented in the District. She emphasized the need to continue to work to break the cycle of violence. Her passion for justice and fairness was well received by the audience.


March 15, 2008 - The candidate attended the Rotary Club of Lillington's 21st Annual Cornelius Harnett Charity Gala. Senator Morgan emceed the event. Joseph Tart, candidate for District 53 State House from Harnett County, was also in attendance. Retired Chief District Court Judge Edward McCormick and the candidate discussed their mutual ancestors in the Harnett and Lee County area. Capping off the evening, Mrs. Taber won the silent auction for two Carolina Basketball tickets for next fall. Mrs. Taber celebrated with an enthusiastic "GO HEELS!"

March 11, 2008 - Kayley Taber spoke attended and spoke at the Lee County Candidates forum in Sanford. The event was sponsored by the Democratic Women of Lee County and was well attend by both local and statewide candidates of both parties. Mrs. Taber was accompanied by her husband, Jeff Taber, and her parents, Bob and Pat Hattler.
